This museum quality 1963 Gran Turismo Hawk, factory optioned with the “Jet Thrust” R-series V-8 engines designed for the Avanti was ordered through Studebaker, with the supercharged the R2 giving 289 bhp, blown with a dealer installed McCulloch pulley driven supercharger, it also comes with a floor mounted 4 speed manual transmission, original four-barrel Carter AFB carburetor, tachometer, AM radio, power steering, and power brakes, it also has the original wheel covers with the Studebaker “S” logo on them. In 1963 this was Studebakers answer to the muscle car.
The GT featured bucket seats and a console in the front, befitting a grand-touring car, and all seats were upholstered in pleated cloth and vinyl
The GT Hawk was fairly light for an American car of its class and era, and this engine made it a sound performer; the blown R-engine just amplified the Hawk’s performance capabilities. Despite the fact that Studebaker’s V8 was a heavy engine for its size; the Hawk was, by most accounts, a car with surprisingly good handling, as well as strong straight-line performance.
This Gran Turismo is a rare car records show that only 4634 Gran Turismo Hawks were built in 1963 and only a few of which had the blown R-2
